Groups and Requirements

High Performance - HP

All Ages - Train to Win

  • This group is designed to allow the most able swimmers the opportunity to succeed in National and International events
  • Optimized approach built around longer term competitive schedule and annual training plan
  • Advanced physical, technical and tactical skills
  • Ability to compete at consistently high levels under various environments
  • Athletes assume autonomy, independence and individual responsibility
  • Focus on the maintenance and possible improvement of physical capacities with a view to maximizing performance
  • Focus on a fully individualized approach 

To be considered

  • Swimmers who qualify for Trials & Canadian Junior Championship/Canadian Senior Championship will be considered
  • Fast track route for talented youth/age group swimmers based on rankings and stage of development
  • The Head Coach has the discretionary ability to select "wildcard" swimmers that are deemed to have excellent long term potential
  • Swimmers are expected to attend all sessions unless on an agreed temporary progressive plan set by the HC
  • Must be ranking very highly on the 11 point attributes table relative to age and peer group

Performance 1 - P1

All Ages - Train to Compete

  • This group is designed to allow swimmers on an performance pathway to train towards national qualification
  • Individualization of physical training approach
  • Advanced physical, technical, tactical skills
  • Ability to compete at high levels under various environments
  • Development of autonomy, independence and individual responsibility
  • Lifestyle skill awareness and development
  • Individualized strength development
  • Competitive performance state management

To be considered

  • Swimmers who qualify for Ontario Swimming Championship in a minimum of 3 Olympic events
  • Fast track route for talented youth/age group swimmers based on rankings and stage of development
  • The Head Coach has the discretionary ability to select "wildcard" swimmers that are deemed to have excellent long term potential
  • Swimmers are expected to attend all sessions unless on an agreed temporary progressive plan set by the HC in consultation with the group coach
  • Must be ranking very highly on the 11 point attributes table relative to age and peer group

Performance 2 - P2

16&U - Train to Train/Compete

  • This group is designed for swimmers who are on the Ontario Swimming Championship qualification pathway
  • Continued development and mastery of skills and technique
  • Aerobic system development
  • Learning the mental skills required to deal with competition
  • Dryland focus on the correct technique, form and strength training
  • Promote teamwork and personal interaction skills
  • Promote positive communication
  • Promote discipline and personal responsibility

To be considered

  • Swimmers who wish to compete and have an aspiration for OYJ & Ontario Swimming Championship time standards
  • The Head Coach has the discretionary ability to select "wildcard" swimmers that are deemed to have excellent long term potential

Elite

14&U - Train to Train

  • This group is designed for swimmers targeting success at Festivals, OYJ and Ontario Swimming Championship
  • Continued development and mastery of skills and technique
  • Aerobic system development
  • Learning the mental skills required to deal with competition
  • Dryland focus on the correct technique and form
  • Promote teamwork and personal interaction skills
  • Promote positive communication
  • Promote discipline and personal responsibility

To be considered

  • 12&U Swimmers who qualify for Festivals, 3 or more events
  • 13 years old Swimmers who qualify for Swim Ontario B Standard
  • 14 years old Swimmers who qualify for Swim Ontario B Standard
  • Fast track route for talented youth/age group swimmers based on rankings and stage of development
  • The Head Coach has the discretionary ability to select "wildcard" swimmers that are deemed to have excellent long term potential
  • Swimmers are expected to attend all sessions unless on an agreed temporary progressive plan set by the HC in consultation with the group coach

Advanced

13&U - Learn to Train

  • This group is designed for swimmers targeting the qualification standard for OYJ
  • Further development and consistent demonstration of movement skills
  • Further development and consistent demonstration of all swimming skills
  • Expert instruction on technical and physical skills
  • Pre-growth spurt focus on repetition of skill towards mastery
  • Flexibility training daily
  • Development of positive attitudes to self, others and sport
  • Continue to develop Agility, Balance, Coordination, Speed (ABCS) in and out of the pool
  • Emphasis on skill development
  • Progressively refined swimming skills  strokes, turns, starts, underwater skills
  • Learn basic practice skills  lane etiquette, pace clocks, etc..

To be considered

  • 12&U Swimmers who qualify for Festivals
  • 13 years old Swimmers who qualify for Swim Ontario C/D Standard
  • The Head Coach has the discretionary ability to select "wildcard" swimmers that are deemed to have excellent long term potential

Junior A

  • Development of positive attitudes to self, others and sport
  • Continue to develop Agility, Balance, Coordination, Speed (ABCS) in and out of the pool
  • Emphasis on skill development
  • Progressively refined swimming skills  strokes, turns, starts, underwater skills
  • Learn basic practice skills  lane etiquette, pace clocks, etc..

To be considered

  • Swimmers who are on track for D & E Festivals Ontario Time Standard

Top C

10&U - FUNdamental/Learn to Train

  • This group is designed for swimmers who have the requisite skills and technique to comence a competitive training program
  • Development and emphasis of all swimming skills including consistent demonstration
  • Focus on repetition of skill
  • Flexibility and strength developnment using own body weight daily
  • Development of positive attitudes to self, others and sport
  • Develop Agility, Balance, Coordination, Speed (ABCS) in and out of the pool
  • Progressively refined swimming skills  strokes, turns, starts, underwater skills
  • Learn basic practice skills  lane etiquette, pace clocks, etc..

To be considered

  • Swimmers who are assessed and are deemed to be technically proficient
