each learner to reach his or her full potential and
to become a positive, responsible contributor to society
- friendly
and safe environment
- dynamic,
innovative programs that provide opportunities for
student leadership
GOAL
OF THE PROGRAM
To
provide an enriched and flexible learning environment

both academic and artistic/athletic excellence.
A
HIGH PERFORMER IS A STUDENT WHO:
- has
been recommended by a qualified coach, instructor,
teacher, or organization
- is
involved at a regional, provincial, national or international
level of performance
- has
been approved for acceptance into the program by the
Silverthorn High Performer Program Admissions Committee
THE
PROGRAM INVOLVES:
- Flexible
academic timetabling that reflects the needs of each
individual student's academic, practice and performance
schedules.
- Teaching
and counseling personnel interested in assisting and
monitoring elite performers in reaching their goals.
- Independent
learning, co-operative education and other alternative
courses to allow for flexibility in the achievement
of secondary school credits.
EXPECTATIONS
OF HIGH PERFORMERS ARE:
- To
follow Silverthorn Collegiate's policies as outlined
in the Student Handbook.
- To
provide the co-ordinator with up-to-date information
regarding school absence for "High Performer"
activities. This information should be on club/organization
letterhead, signed by coach, advisor, etc. and submitted
well in advance of the absence.
- To
write final examinations. The dates of semester-end
exams are published in September and must be taken
into account when planning training and competition
schedules.
- To
work closely with the Principal, the guidance counselor
and subject teachers, in making alternate plans for
the submission of assignments, the writing of tests,
etc., which might be delayed or missed due to performance
commitments. Each High Performer is expected to be
a self-advocate by keeping subject teachers aware
of training and competition schedules and by discussing
strategies necessary to achieve success in the classroom.
- To
maintain a 75% academic standing in all subject
areas.
