Swimmer of the Month
The swimmer of the month for April is Sarah Smook. Sarah has a positive attitude and is always smiling at practice. She is generally on time ready to swim and has begun to improve greatly on her dryland performance. Though sometimes sluggish in the water, Sarah has begun to understand going all out and is getting faster and faster all the time. She has begun to sprint for the all out, and can hold her own in the longer distance sets. Sarah continues to challenge herself with faster pace times which is a delight to see. Sarah has come a long way this season and I hope that she can be a good example of hard work leading to results in the athletic world. Good job Sarah!
Congratulations on being the swimmer of the month. Keep up the good work!

Group Report
The group is progressing very well as of late. We have been working on a whole bunch of things here and there. Recently we were working on a lot of turns for the upcoming competition. The swimmers are becoming better at streamline and underwater dolphin kick off of every wall. They are beginning to display certain swimming skills under their own initiative; further developing good swimming habits at an early age. In regards to performance sets the swimmers are progressing amiably. I have challenged them every practice with some all out and they have been performing quite well. I hope to see some drastic time drops in the upcoming meet from everybody.

We have also continued our pursuit of perfect technique with many drills and sets geared to improving the basics of technique. The swimmers are beginning to rotate their shoulders more for freestyle and backstroke, as well as keep their head and body in line. Breaststroke and Fly are coming along nicely as well, and with simple drills the swimmers will build the strength for these more challenging strokes.

In the dry-land field the swimmers have begun to run almost every day in order to back up the swimming and further train their cardio. Running stairs also helps develop strong leg muscles, and aids in good balance. Having said that you can see how important it is to bring running shoes to every practice, and a water bottle to remain hydrated.

As you may have heard there has been an incident at the Olympium that happened in the change rooms. Since then there is a lifeguard positioned in the change rooms at all times. We have also been enforcing our club policy of going to the washrooms in pairs. In order to minimize the overall disruption of the group I have asked swimmers to go to the washroom prior to practice, and to try and avoid going during the water portion. Our time is limited in the pool and I would like for the swimmers to make the most of what they have by remaining in the pool for the duration.

Lastly I would like to remind parents that every practice is very important to attend. I have mentioned to the swimmers to come to every practice on time and ready to swim. It is also important that they stay healthy especially if participating in multiple athletic endeavors. If skiing/snowboarding, dress warmly and try not to catch a cold. Parents please try to schedule any appointments and outings around practice times, and if you can give me notice in advance as to when/if your swimmer will be absent it is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns you can always e-mail me.

EXTRA INFORMATION:

Please check the Schedule Amendments regularly as they can sometimes change. Also there are many days in February that we have an altered schedule so please take note of that.
